Narcissism in an ancient part of the human experience, with the root of the word stemming from the Greek mythological character Narcissus, who drowned from falling in love with his own image reflected in a pond. An outdated and incomplete understanding of this phenomena confuses self-love as the source of this issue, where modern accounts show that it is actually a personality devoid of self-love & inner value that needs to compensate for this void by endlessly seeking validation from the external. When we do not have a strong & healthy sense of self, we can easily wander into the pitfalls of this growing social contagion by forgetting where our true source of happiness & fulfillment actually live. 

Without a real, personal understanding & experience of our own authentic self, we can very easily lose our direction & purpose, or even worse fall prey to individuals or forces that seek to capitalize on our confusion, while we become unwitting pawns in the twisted games that those without conscience orchestrate. If we consider that this phenomenon is not exclusive to individuals, but manifests among groups and even nations, we can start to pull back the veil and see that our own participation in a system based on narcissism and manipulation of others for personal gain may even be at the crux of the great dilemma that humanity is currently confronted with. 

Narcissism is more than a disorder at these levels, it is a spiritual test and evolutionary opportunity, as such, using astrology as a lens for our spiritual journey in this realm can help us to answer questions that the mundane alone cannot address. As we begin to understand the stars and our place among them on this Earth, we can not only reclaim this True Self that real spiritual work promises, but we can actually create Heaven on Earth in our own lives as a start, and even influence the world around us to the same.
